Pakistan's Musharraf resigns without getting assassinated first

The first problem the new president will have to solve- no TIVO.

Pakistan's embattled President Pervez Musharraf resigned today. Although Musharraf was able to dodge several assassination attempts during his nine years in office, he decided not to try to survive impeachment charges. The country's information minister, Sherry Rehman, said or his resignation, "It is a victory of democratic forces. Today, the shadow of dictatorship that has prevailed for long over this country, that chapter has been closed."

Musharraf is not expected to stay in Pakistan. Sympathy cards for the former leader have poured in from all quarters:
