EDITORIAL: The liberal media's attacks on the dollar won't work
The economic world woke up today to find the Dow plunging and two major financial institutions falling apart, and yet one significant aspect of this crisis seems to be going unreported. Namely, that our currency is being subjected to unfair and vicious attacks by the media.
It's demeaning and dismissive to question whether or not our currency is qualified to survive this crisis, and yet the liberal press is all too happy to pile on with inappropriate questions and doomsday scenarios in a blatant attempt to take down the economy.
Today's Times brays that stocks are sliding. Visit MSNBC and you'll be hard pressed to find anything but scaremongering about bankruptcies and collapsing markets. Perhaps the mainstream media ought to examine the dollar's many accomplishments.
- You can buy things with it.
- You can tip a valet with it.
- You can slip it into a stripper's G-string.
- You can light your cigar with it.
- You can give it to that homeless man who happens to be a dead ringer for your old boss
- You can fold it up into a precious jewelry item.
Yet these many achievements are ignored, even scoffed at, all because of a few insignificant real estate deals that brought down an entire nation's banking system.
The scrutiny is simply unwarranted and indecent. Would we hold other currencies to such an impossible standard? Would we question the yen's ability to be exchanged for goods and services? Would we turn our backs on the Guatemalan quetzal should it understandably fall below 13 cents on the dollar? The euro didn't even exist as physical currency until 2002. How can you call that experience?
We call upon the left-wing media to cease these disgusting attacks on a true American currency. Frankly, it's damned sexist, if you ask us.
