If They IM'd: Senator McCain and Maverick McCain
The weekend, the New York Times magazine published an extensive article about John McCain's difficulty defining himself during this election season. The piece describes argument after argument, discussion after discussion, as McCain and his advisers struggled to come up with a clear "narrative" for the campaign. As a result, the campaign ended up creating a handful of conflicting versions of their candidate: the do-gooder war hero, the experienced politician, the steadfast leader, the GOP-defying maverick. Through it all, what emerges is a portrait of a guy who's tired of pretending and just wants it all to be over already.
The campaign put forth their various iterations of John McCain one at a time. But what if they all ended up in one place...like the Internet?
