What's gonna happen to...Joe Lieberman?
In a new series, 23/6 takes a look at all the McCain allies, GOP bagmen, and far-right smear-meisters who are kind of f**ked in the wake of the Obama win, and we ask, "What's gonna happen to that guy?"
What is the definition of "Joementum?" In 2004, when Joe Lieberman coined the term to describe his Presidential candidacy, it apparently meant "doomed to fail from day one." Nowadays though, "Joementum" would have to describe the speed one begins to pick up when a political party grabs you by the shirt collar and belt loops and launches you out the door.
Lieberman came out for the Iraq war and then stuck with it, causing him to lose his Democratic senate nomination in 2006. So he decided to go to the prom stag and formed the "Connecticut for Lieberman" party to win re-election. That's when Lieberman started calling himself an "independent democrat," perhaps because "GOP-curious" sounded too creepy.
Just barely a democrat at that point, Lieberman hitched his wagon to the can't-miss candidacy of John McCain for President. It's rumored that McCain wanted Lieberman for his veep pick but, in keeping with tradition, "the party didn't want him." Rejected by the GOP, he still stood up at their convention and crapped all over the Democratic candidate. Because if you ever get the chance to be called "this year's Zell Miller," you best not pass that shit up.
McCain lost, and the GOP got trounced. Now the Dems want Lieberman out of the Democratic Caucus. Lieberman has countered with a threat that Mitch McConnell invited him to switch to the GOP, which is about the saddest bargaining chip ever put on a negotiating table. By all means, go join the party that's keeping its fingers crossed to hang onto an Alaskan Senator presently facing jail-time.
Harry Reid has so far not stepped up to the plate and given Joe the boot, saying that Lieberman votes with Dems 90% of the time and we should "recognize the glass being half full, not half empty." To which we say, if the glass is half full of piss, stop calling us pessimists and dump that out!
Doesn't look like it's going to happen. So, what's gonna happen to that guy?
Our prediction: Lieberman will lose his committee but will remain in the Caucus as an "Independent Democrat." His popularity will continue to wane, and when he runs for reelection in 2012 he will be forced to change the name of his party to "Connecticut Against Lieberman," which will trick voters into giving him a landslide victory.

Lieberman still hasn't fucked over the Libertarians or the Greens, so maybe that's next.
Or he could rent out his forehead for advertising space.
