It's easier to remember the things that he didn't ruin.
During a panel discussion of Bush's potential legacy last night, Karl Rove defended Bush's decision to go to war saying, "We wouldn't have gone to war if the intelligence was better." He of course neglected to mention that he's talking about intelligence that they fabricated.
The revisionist legacy builders are kicking it into high gear. But finding the silver lining in the Bush cloud is gonna be pretty difficult. So to help conservatives defend their guy, we provide this handy Defending Bush's Legacy-O-Tron, with all the excuses, concessions, and outright lies one might need in their effort to convince somebody that Bush wasn't the worst president ever.
The Defending Bush's Legacy-O-Tron
Okay, okay, okay. So maaaaaybe he wasn't our best president.
But the guy did one or two okay things, right? Sure, he had his bad moments. Like, And yeah, there were a bunch of snafus, like But there are a few bright spots, right? I mean, during his two terms, the American people were never Right? Could'a happened but didn't. And by bringing our country down a few notches, I dare say Bush loved this country more than most other Presidents, which is why he decided Think about how you are today compared to eight years ago. Are you more aware of You can thank Bush for that knowledge. He's did more to teach people about the legal limitations of the office of the president than any social studies teacher ever did.
Now, sure, if you press me to name one Bush policy that ended up benefiting this country, I'll But if you press me to think of one good thing that's come of the Bush Presidency? That's easy:
What about the American people, those brilliant, engaged and practical voters who, through ignorance, stupidity, greed, laziness and cowardice put and kept this destructive moron in power for 8 years? Write a similar article for them. They have a lot to answer for too. Start with: My paycheck plus easy credit bought my silence and complicity just enough so I unquestionly accepted crappy SUV's and paid huge amounts for houses whose intrinsic values were obviously not even close to that value while I shoved mountains of edible food-like substances down my throat facilitated by oil kept cheap by underwriting death squads and dictators worldwide while enriching the medical industrial complex who sold me chemicals to mask the symptoms of my greed, and my faith in God shall prevail and elevate me up while smiting mine enemies, what more evidence do you need to seen I am The Annointed and where is Iraq on a map anyway and who cares because the faith I have in my ignorance shall prevail over reality which I have choosen to rename Enemy Combatant etc....The American people are not the victims here. The Bush Administration represented the worst side of their nature (remember, representative government? Look it up) and they did nothing to stop it and everything to keep it going. Oh, did you march it the street, challenge your employer, engage in civil disobedience, refuse to pay taxes? No, you had stupid magnetic ribbons on your crappy gas guzzlers saying Support Our Troops as you waddled out of Wal-Mart. Take a good look in the mirror, grow up and take responsibility. And for God's sake, get out a fucking map and learn where Iraq is (and hint, Africa is not a country). Sheesh
I subscribe to the thesis of Vincent Bugliosi's recent book, THE PROSECUTION OF GEORGE W. BUSH FOR MURDER; namely, that if indeed W fabricated the intel -which he did, I believe, with the connivance of his CIA chief and White House "bud" George Tenet- that he could face indictment in the venue of any district attorney in the country in which a resident member of the military died. Ethics have not changed. Preemptive wars are immoral; thus the rush to war based upon the immediate "threat" of WMD. These cute assessments leave me nauseated. W and his ilk are war criminals whose reckless abandon have brought our beloved homeland to the brink of ruin. By the way, they are neither primarily Republicans nor are they conservatives. They are authoritarians -my way or the highway- whose only goal is that of consolidating power. Karl Rove may try to sculpt an angel out of a turd, but the truth of the last years will prevail.
I do not think that w's explanation is indefensible. I think it was his lack of intelligence that got us into this war. Dicky is a lot smarter so he does not have the same defense. Neither does Rummy. But a lot of people smarter than me know that w's biggest problem in office was his lack of intelligence. Maybe if he had taken more vitamins or eaten more fruit and vegetables. His mother probably had a lot of difficulty with her pregnancy and w did not get enough oxygen into his brain.
