What's in and what's out for 2009 (rampant joblessness edition!)

Stunned hopelessness is the new black.

Another year comes to a close, and another 533,000 jobs disappear in a single month. That's the biggest one-month job loss in 34 years. In total, America has lost 1.87 million jobs over the past twelve months.

Bleak news. While many Americans are out of work, we've still got a job to do, and that job is to present our end-of-year trend-spotting roundup! So check below for our rundown of what's in and what's out for 2009, now that the entire country is getting laid off.
