Tito the Builder...We're gonna miss you, buddy
As the year comes to a close, 23/6 takes a moment to say goodbye to all the bit players and historical footnotes who helped make 2008's news extra special. We'll probably never see them again, so before they go we'd like to say... "We're gonna miss you buddy."
Okay, so Joe the Plumber didn't quite work out for McCain-Palin. It ended up that he wasn't really a plumber, that he doesn't pay his taxes, but if he did he would be much better off under an Obama tax plan than McCain's. Live and learn, right?
After that mis-step, the McCain campaign knew they had to be much more careful about who they picked to be their citizen spokesman. They looked far and wide until they found a grainy Youtube video of a man screaming at journalists in a heated parking lot argument that looked like it might come to blows at any moment. The minute they saw him the McCain campaign said, "That's our guy. If he's not presently wanted by the police, let's have him introduce Sarah."
And thus, Tito Munoz was reborn "Tito the Builder."
Tito is an extremely angry Colombian immigrant who did in fact own his own construction business and might even have paid his taxes (suck it, Joe!). Tito's trademark look could only be described as "Village People, but scary." He took the stage and appeared on TV in a construction helmet and orange vest, and almost always wore black biker sunglasses. The few times he appeared on TV without the sunglasses revealed that Tito has a slight tic that makes him appear to be incessantly winking at the viewer. No wonder Sarah wanted him by her side.
Of all the hail Mary's thrown by the McCain campaign, Tito was the final stunt that really made voters think "Oh man they are officially out of ideas." Possibly the least appealing campaign spokesman since, well, Tucker Bounds, Tito the Builder constructed hope in the hearts of Obama supporters. We knew that if Tito was being put on the air and on the stage at rallies, McCain really didn't have any tricks left up his sleeve, and maybe this would be the year we finally wouldn't lose.
For that, we wanna thank Tito. You were a wonderful addition to the McCain campaign. Colorful, passionate, um, kind of shady, you really let people know who they were voting for if they pulled the lever for McCain. And so before you go we'd like to say Tito the Builder, we're gonna miss you, buddy!

It worked for me, I agree totally that it was great fun, but I always thought campaigns, even Republican ones, were run by fairly smart people, but John McCain proved me wrong. Dang!
