On Saturday, Israel launched massive air strikes into Gaza in an effort to dismantle Hamas, the terrorist group that has been shooting rockets into southern Israel for months. Seventeen Israelis have been killed since the beginning of this year. Muslim countries predictably came to Hamas's defense, with Turkey calling Israel's assault a, "crime against humanity." (Of course, Turkey has yet to weigh in on its own hundred-year-old genocide against Armenians.) The Bush administration expressed its complete support for Israel, saying "[Hamas] are nothing but thugs."

Israel's prime minister Ehud Olmert said the situation is "liable to last longer than we are able to foresee at this time."
