Funny! The abortion part didn't really add much, but the rest was funny. Maybe its okay to show a woman being relieved and even excited to get an abortion. Its a pivotal moment and thank god its an option.

Calm down, fer chrissakes...the joke was relief at being able to HAVE an abortion now that Sarah Nailin' Palin got shown the EXIT door to White House. No, abortion isn't a JOKE, but there's nothing to say we can't all afford a relieved giggle now that the imminent threat has been neutralized. We do need to stay on top of this issue and make sure that these idiots with too much time and sky god envy don't get in there and decide what every woman can and cannot do with HER OWN body and reproductive system. And yes, I AM old enough to remember when it was illegal and the women going to prison for making their own decisions---dying in back alley abortions and being maimed by nasty ass skid row hacks that were looking to make a few bucks. Women will be dying at an unprecedented rate if we go back to the dark ages. But for now, it's legal---and they may even be able to tell women about their options again! Won't that be special??

Satire is irony. There is nothing ironic or remotely funny about two 14 year old girls who were repeatedly raped and eventually impregnated by their fathers prior to Roe v. Wade. One of the rape victims had an illegal abortion. The other girl could not afford the then illegal procedure and was forced to give birth to her father"s child. She dropped out of school in the 9th grade because of the stigma. These two girls are not statistics I pulled out of some report on sexual assault: one of the girls is a relative; the other was the sister of my friend from junior high school. Real women. Real horror. Real pain.

This is the harsh reality of life when women"s reproductive rights are dictated by religious zealots who oppose abortion.

For anyone to claim that abortion will now be legal forever because Palin lost the election is categorically wrong.

No, I will not calm down. Relentless attacks on women's reproductive rights is not a joke. On Nov 4, 2008, we narrowly defeated (52% to 47%) a ballot initiative in California which would have amend the California Constitution to require parental notification and a 48-hour waiting period before allowing a minor to obtain an abortion. Anti-abortionist in Colorado, South Dakota, Mississippi, Montana, Oregon, Georgia, and Missouri continue with their efforts to ban legal and safe abortions through legislation. The threat against women's reproductive rights is real and on-going.

To state absolutely that Palin's lost bid for the VP job means abortion will be forever legal is absurd...clearly, those who scripted this piece are as ignorant--if not more so--than Palin. Preservation of abortion/reproductive rights continue to be serious issues for women in this country.

No one in the video looks old enough to remember the days when abortion was illegal in the United States. Unlike the woman in the video, women of my generation could not pick up the phone and make an appointment for an abortion with a well trained doctor. No, women of my generation can tell you the only alternative for pregnant women not ready to have a child was a back ally abortion with coat hanger.

People like Palin are relentless in their efforts to outlaw abortion, deny women access to contraceptives, outlaw the right of adolescent females to abortion without parental consent, and outlaw sexual and reproductive education in public schools. You know, I read the comments before I watched the video, and thought, "man, the abortion joke must be awful!" But it turns out that either several 23/6 readers haven't spent enough time watching George Carlin stand-up, or I'm just a terrible, terrible person. Seriously, this video is disgusting and offensive. It could have been funny. I'm as liberal as they come and am indeed thankful that the GOP slapped Palin on the ticket. But to be so flip about abortion is absolutely disgusting, there's never anything funny about it. Though liberals support a woman's right to choose, no one is happy about an abortion taking place and to characterize all liberals as taking this sad and wrenching issue so lightly is completely stupid.

The video was totally ruined by the abortion piece.
Making the decision and following through is hard for most women.
I don't know anyone who celebrated.
However, women can be glad Roe keeps the gov't from interfering.
Maybe the last part should be a celebration of saving the Supreme Court from a possible Palinesque choice. At least we are safe for the time being.

Sure, we dodged the terrifying prospect of a McCain/Palin administration, but this is nothing more than juvenile gloating with an utterly tasteless finale. I know women who have been through an abortion and, although they were grateful to have the option, levity was conspicuously absent from the process.
