Getting Your House in Order

We've all been spending some time getting our financial houses in order. But what about your actual house? It might seem trivial given all that's going on in the world, but there are times where you have to look around your personal or work space and decide to shed some of the excess in order to be more productive (which lends itself in many cases to greater prosperity.)

I recently had the chance to interview Julie Morgenstern, a top expert on organization.
Being in the midst of so many changes right now, it's hard to move forward when you're surrounded by clutter. Morgenstern says that it's important to realize that organizing is not about getting rid of things, it's about giving yourself access to the things that make you more successful and productive.

She also says it's hard to make a move toward change when we're weighed down by the past. Being cluttered and disorganized is often a result of holding on to what we can't let go of. Clutter isn't junk, it's symbolic of an old attachment. It's hard to release things--but if you can get rid of what's no longer relevant, you can move forward.

As you listen to Morgenstern's interview, think about what you're holding on to right now, and what you might be ready to let go of. You may not be able to change the world and it's effect on your bank balance, your job or your life. But you can take hold of the clutter in your life and do something about it today.
