Michelle's speech was a home run. Emotional, heartfelt, and very authentic. On a night where Ted Kennedy passed the Democratic Party's moral baton, Michelle picked it up and ran with it -- evoking RFK's famous evocation of George Bernard Shaw ("Some men see things as they are...") by talking about the world as it is vs the world as it should be. The cutest, laden with meta-meaning line of the night, however, came from Michelle's brother who revealed that even though, as children, they were only allowed to watch one hour of television a night Michelle had still managed to memorize every episode of that iconic rendering of American family life, The Brady Bunch. Lucky for Team Obama that the show she memorized wasn't Gilligan's Island or Green Acres. Michelle, Michelle, Michelle...

Last night was wonderful with the Obamas and Kennedys. Am dreading the Clintons.
Don't watch them.
I don't get it, what is the big deal with the Clintons?
Bill had the best presidential administration in the past 20 years. Hillary is a sharp, intelligent, capable leader. It was an election, they played to win. They did not. However the Democratic Party is fortunate to have folks of the caliber of Bill and Hillary.
Why is it that some folks love drama and divisiveness? The real opposition is NOT within our ranks. Our opposition is a political movement led by unscrupulous men who have subverted our Country’s very soul, damaged our spirits, brought about death and suffering and nearly bankrupted our Nation. All for a failed ideology that seeks to reward a small group at the expense of our dear America and humanity itself. UNITE!
Though I lost respect for the Clintons during the primary, I think you can count on Hillary to be very classy tonight. Any less would only hurt their legacy, and they care about that a lot. She knows that we are watching with a critical eye to gauge her sincerity. There are more elections in her future, as long as she's not seen as a bitter loser.
For someone new to the "world stage", Michelle had a lot of poise!

It was a nice ,good ,heartfelt speech. Nice description of her family life and history but little reason why her husband should be President of the USA...The crowd shots of tears and adoration were hokey at best and uncomfortable to watch... My wife and daughter though loved her outfit.
She gave "little reason why her husband should be President" because there are NO legitimate reasons to cite! When will people figure out that Obama can talk a good game, but he has no achievements for all the professional and political opportunities he's been given.
expectations.
...Great, great great great, just great!!!!!...
...Michelle Obama, as always you far exceeded expecations...
...I can't contain my excitement about Sen. Obama's campaign...
...I haven't been this excited in LIFE since.....since....since....I don't even remember!
Obama/Biden 2008!
Let's do this!
.
I guess most people are not sitting home with all the TVs in the house toggling between MSNBC and the gavel-to-gavel coverage on CNN, as my house was. There were tears here as well. I was a little miffed that they didn’t let Jimmy Carter speak, I wanted to hear him speak about the housing crisis and the homeless in America, but I satisfied myself with anointing him The Most Adorable President, Living or Dead. I also toggled to network TV to see what the low information voter is seeing. Sadly, they did not see Senator Leach speak from the other side as I hoped they would hear his rousing cry to vote for Obama as he knows that our country cannot stand another 4 years of Bush’s policies.
I got chills when Teddy took the stage. I didn’t need a brain to be touched. It was more like muscle memory that told me I was witnessing something very special and it would be remembered forever. However, I worried about Michelle following such a speech. Would she be able to bring the crowd up from the high notch Senator Kennedy cut?
I needn’t have worried. She was stupendous! Out of the park? She hit it out of the state!! She did everything she was asked to do. Any chump would have to be impressed with the sweet, kind and gentle Michelle. She’s the whole package. Tough *and* gentle. How do we not elect this wonderful team?
She will make a Great "Assistant President"!!
As a Black Man I was so proud to see her up there Speaking with so much Strength, Passion, and Love. She is what every black woman should aspire to be. Thank You Michelle for being that STRONG example that we need in the African American community.
And as a "white" grandmother, I want to add that Michelle Obama is also just a wonderful role model for ALL girls.
I'm sorry. This is all wishful thinking. The Republicans have already gone far to paint Obama as not sufficiently American. And this is just the beginning. If all Democrats don't start to fight back -- and fight hard -- we'll be looking at four years of McCain come November. I don't know if Hillary would have been better in the national election. But everyone was so blinded by Obama's message no one really looked at the problems his candidacy would face nationally. These issues are coming home to roost , and I don't think there's enough time to neutralize them. So Arianna, stop preaching to the converted and get out there. Don't be intellectual; be visceral. It's the only chance we've got.
Was you TV set even turned on or did you write this in the afternoon....
Wow! Suzanne in NYC. You hit the nail on the head! "So Arianna, stop preaching to the converted and get out there". Doesn't matter anyway... Arianna and her crew "huffpo" have already put us on notice that when He loses, it will be Hillary's fault. Re the look of the Huffpo today, I hardly notice it... where are the articles slamming HRC? I'm used to coming on here and getting insulted because my candidate didn't quit, "when the numbers didn't add up". Lastly:
people were alr. giving Barack greif for the whole Russia/GA delay in responding etc. I'm like "hey guys, give him a break, he's never done anything like this before, nor ever had to really consider things like that.. you can't expect him to just be able to do that right away... afterall he was a STATE legislature during the last olympics.. it's gonna take him a few years to get competent... or even know which way is up " sheesh... it's like people didn't even consider that at all in the primaries, and now that we have to consider the whole landscape (whole country/world) Obamaniacs are now going ... ' oh yeah .. I forgot"... we (DEMS) are definitiely rolling the dice on BO. AND... my guess is he isn't going to win... (rumor on the street in DC is that he's unelectible.. from what I heard anyway.. but afterall it's all Hillary's fault)
Absolutely a fabulous speech last night by Michelle Obama. My wife said Senator Obama should have put her on the ticket. Wow, what a woman.
I watched the speech with my brother-in-law. He's a Republican, and very conservative on most issues. He actually wiped away tears a couple times, and when it was over he said, "I'm impressed! I can't understand why they haven't used her more."
michelle's the best
The speech and the tele-connect with "the One" afterward struck me as really tacky, especiallly with thie children in leading roles. The whole speach and display smacked of TELEVANGELISM. My worst fears about the cult of Obama were confirmed.
In your mind, just replace the Obamas with some people you ACTUALLY LIKE. You'll see there's no logical reason for your fears.
Right, what's with the kids anyway? Hey, of course, they're cute - most kids are, but didn't the Obamas say they weren't going to exploit the kids, weren't going to expose them to media? Seems to me they've been up front and out front quite a lot. As for Michelle's speech, no I am entirely unconvinced that she and Barack are "just like us" and the list of the reasons why is too long to go into; in fact, the suggestion is entirely ludicrous!
Does this mean that Cindy McBush will have to give a speech at the Repugnant convention?
Fred Barnes - a man who has suffered all his life being the last one chosen for any team - stated emphatically last night that Michelle Obama's speech wasn't a great speech. Even Brit Hume, between belches seemed taken aback by Barnes obvious attempt to insert his head directly into Roger Ailes ... but I digress.
It was a fine speech, with a exciting message and a hopeful timbre.

That was the point I changed back to C-SPAN to avoid the talking heads. I prefer to form my own opinions.
Personally, I was blown away. She was fabulous. Hit all the right points.
