Michelle's speech was a home run. Emotional, heartfelt, and very authentic. On a night where Ted Kennedy passed the Democratic Party's moral baton, Michelle picked it up and ran with it -- evoking RFK's famous evocation of George Bernard Shaw ("Some men see things as they are...") by talking about the world as it is vs the world as it should be. The cutest, laden with meta-meaning line of the night, however, came from Michelle's brother who revealed that even though, as children, they were only allowed to watch one hour of television a night Michelle had still managed to memorize every episode of that iconic rendering of American family life, The Brady Bunch. Lucky for Team Obama that the show she memorized wasn't Gilligan's Island or Green Acres. Michelle, Michelle, Michelle...

Thank you so much Arianna for everything you do for us! Even though I can't be at the convention I feel connected to it through you. Your dedication is inspiring and truly a gift to the world.

Michelle hit a grand slam last night. As an Obama supporter I had my hopes pinned on her anyway but as a woman I found myself in tears watching this intelligent, beautiful, accomplished lady full of love and compassion make the speech of her life. I am so proud of her.
It could not have been done any better! What a wonderful speech. The icing on the cake though was listening to Karl Rove desperately try to knock it down. In his whinning he actually said she could have saved some time for other things "if she had not said all that about Iraq being a disaser!" Priceless!
I've said since I first learned of the Obama's intent to run for the White House that Michelle Obama will make a really beautiful and fine First Lady, one of the best.
this memory of mine : G O D B L E S S A M E R I C A !!!

Why not make Joe Biden Secretary of State, in addition to his minimal job as Vice President? Then he will have a REAL, FULL TIME job that will use all his talents!
I don't think there is any impediment to that legally.
I'm from Minnesota, and our Governor, Tim Pawlenty, appointed his Lt. Governor to also be the head of the Minnesota Highway Dept. She filled that post for months until the State Senate refused to confirm her in that position.
I'm sure Joe Biden wouldn't have that problem.
I have heard Michelle Obama speak before. She is intelligent, articulate, authentic, with a full grasp of the issues. In my opinion, she is the equal of her husband in terms of her skills as an orator and in terms of knowing what she is talking about, and her ability to move and inspire an audience. You want charisma, Barack has it, but so does Michelle. It's clear she is a wonderful mother and partner for her husband. They used to say that with the Clintons you got two for the price of one. But there was all that baggage that went with it. With the Obamas, you also get that, but no baggage this time, just an honest desire to serve and do what's right for this country. These are two self-made people whose gifts are there for all to see. I can only hope the American electorate gets it rigth this time.
Beautifully written.
You are right on, John!
Now let's work our hearts out to get this terrific family into our White House.
Ms. Obama's speech was at once intellectual and emotional. She smartly laid out for us who she is, why we should vote for her husband and why she supports him.
Details and policy points will be laid out in the platform that comes out of the convention. An important task for all democrats and Americans would be to compare the democratic platform with Senator Obama's policies as outlined so carefully and thoughtfully in "Audacity of Hope"
The reason the GOP is attacking so ferociously is because they have nothing else to offer. Jim Carville, calm down. We won't let Senator Obama get "swiftboated"
A great speech... a beautiful speech... and that Sasha was the icing on the cake !!!!!!
Congratulations Michelle! Your speech was a hit!
Michelle Obama did a great job last night. She presented herself and her family in a very down to earth but literate & balanced manner. It was a treat to watch a women who inspires rather than
rants and lies. Congratulations Michelle.
It was also a treat to see and hear a woman who has ideas of her own and confidence in her husband's love and support (and vice versa) , instead of one who stands grimly beside a husband who called her the most insulting and disgusting names it is possible for a man to call a woman and who distorts the remarks of another candidate's wife to try to paint her as unpatriotic.
Michelle Obama could have raised Cindy McCain's past as an addict and thief of drugs from a public clinic, but she didn't.
Michelle Obama was beautiful, spoke movingly and was inspiring.
And she was Authentic.(That's something we haven't seen in a long, long time).
I think the thing that touched us all about her is something called "honesty".
It's been sorely lacking these past 8 years (perhaps more) You could see it in her face and you could see it in her mother's face - what a STRONG woman her mother, raising two generations.
Also, Michelle is NOT a politician - she is not a seasoned speaker...but you would have never known it.
I loved watching Barack's face when he was waving to his girls.
Priceless!
She is a seasoned speaker. She's been working in the public most of her career. Her skill equals Barack's.
Michelle was fabulous! In contrast - have a peek at the loony Hillary supporters that Chris Matthews referenced all night long. YouTube search for: "Chris Matthews Talks to Clintons For McCain"
This woman is so tragic, it's hilarious!!!
The Convention left me flat and worried. I think part of it was the convention coming on the heels of the grandeur of the Olympic Closing ceremonies.
Sorry folks, the chemistry just wasn't there.
I liked Michelle Obama but she is not the candidate. And I still cannot see into the depths of Barrack.
If Hillary really stirs the crowd tonight, we are in trouble even if she is not controversial but is more inspiring than day one was.
It is tragic to say you need a brain tumor to generate excitement but that seems to be the case. It's never going to be Camelot again and that's what we Democrats long for.
"We democrats"
"I liked Michelle Obama but she is not the candidate. And I still cannot see into the depths of Barrack."
Sounds more like Shawn Hannity thinking to me.
I can see into the depths of McCain and HIllary and I don't like it one bit. Obama has depth, a family he loves, a voting record and yet people just can't handle his image. If his name was John Johnson it would be better. I think this country is going to elect McCain based on bias and immature comfort factor. What until they see how much it costs us. Try reading Obama's book for a change.
