I've written 11 books, but none has ever had a theme song to go with it. Until now. Singer/songwriter (and HuffPost blogger) Jill Sobule, along with her multi-talented friends Kay Hanley and Michelle Lewis, have written a rockin' anthem to fearlessness called, appropriately enough, "Fearless." They even wrote a verse I could rap! We got together to practice and I thought you'd get a kick out of seeing a bit of the rehearsal. That's Michelle on the left of the screen, Jill sitting next to me, and Kay on the right. And sitting in on tambourine is Annabel Lasally, the 8-year old daughter of our Features Editor, Romi Lasally. So check out "Fearless" -- the lyrics are below -- and look for the "in concert" version we performed in San Francisco at the kickoff party for my book tour, coming soon.
And here's the studio recording of the song:
Fearless
(Sobule, Hanley, Lewis)
When I was eight, I was so kick ass
Playing electric guitar with a little kid band
Wanted to be Hendrix or Jimmy Page
Full of sugar and spice and puppy dogs tails
I was fearless, I was fearless
Then I got older in junior high school
Playing guitar was totally cool
But only for a boy with a Flying Vee
As I waited backstage, wishing it was me (who was)
Fearless, fearless
It's OK, you can take it back
You're never too old and it's never that bad
It's all right, when there's nothing left to lose
(you gotta be)
Fearless - don't tread lightly
Fearless
Fearless - don't go quietly
When you stare it down
You'll be better off in the end
I've been through it all and I'm here to say
Do I have regrets, hell, everyday
But as I get older I care a lot less
Still playing guitar and still kicking ass
I am fearless...A little more fearless
And it's OK, you can take it back
You're never too old and it's never that bad
It's all right, what else are you gonna do?
(you gotta be)
Fearless - don't tread lightly
Fearless -
Fearless - don't go quietly
When you stare it all down
You'll be better off in the end
Arianna:
I've written a book, and I have a blog
But in my whole life I've never sung on a song
So if my voice sounds funny and my accent strong
Get over it! And sing along
Cause I'm fearless, I am fearless
And it's OK, you can take it back
You're never too old and it's never that bad
It's all right, you got nothing left to lose!
(you gotta be)
Fearless - don't tread lightly
Fearless -
Fearless - don't go quietly
When you stare it all down
You'll be better off in the end
