On Monday, I asked for suggestions for the 5 word acceptance speech I would give at last night's Webby Awards. And you came through with an embarrassment of pithy riches -- offering up over 1,000 suggestions. Some were impassioned, some were funny, many were both -- and all were very creative. Color me impressed. And appreciative: thanks to everyone who sent one in.
It was a very tough call but, in the end, we decided to go with "President Obama... Sounds good, right?", submitted by Sunflower1 (your book is on the way).
The other finalists were: "Big Brother, we're watching you" (submitted by SilthyTove); "No country for old media" (jungpatawan); and "Fuck it... We'll liveblog it!" (LiarLiarIraqsOnFire)
And here are some of our other favorite 5 word speech submissions:
"Truth: How's that for Change?"
-skepticfromschenectady
"Flag pins can't deflate hope"
-outsidein
"Dissent: American as Apple Pie"
- RoloTomassi
"Well, I blog your milkshake"
-jungpatawan
"O.C.D. Blogging Cures A.D.D. Media"
-TomR
"Reality-based and lovin' it!"
- TomR
"8 years... Please, not 12!"
-KevInAk
"Life is short; Blog Hard!!"
-lonesomejames
"Outrage fatigue musn't cause complacency"
-anastasiabeaverhousen
"Censorship is for political cowards"
-Fightnmad
"Did McCain vote for us?"
-kufu
"Dodging sniper fire since 2005"
-LeoMarvin
"Derailing the Straight-Talk Express"
- Jacksonian

The mark of intellect is the ablity to prcess information and change course as necessary. Those who lack inteelect are inflexible to the point of seeking to be roken
Huffington changed when she came in contact with intellects that showed her the faults in the conservative power structure and its hypocractic relationship with its base and the center. The liars on the right are amazed when they are caught in a lie. They know they are too smart for anyone to figure out they are liars.
You are absolutely right!
By now, we've all seen that "staying the course" just for the sake of not appearing weak can be disastrous for a country.
Steve Colbert description:
"This President will believe the same thing on Wednesday as he did on Monday, regardless of what happened on Tuesday!" underscored that IQ matters (and why we should keep that in mind when we vote!)
Sunflower...................Perfect, thanks
"Huffington Post: YES WE CAN!"
Bit late, but I just had to say it :)
Thank you, Arianna, and congratulations on a job well done, Sunflower1! I am tickled pink to receive an honorable mention.
It's wonderful to be a part of the dialogue that is reshaping our nation. Okay! Okay! I admit it: I'm addicted to the Huffington Post!
After 7 1 / 2 years of war when Liberman had to HAND HOLD Mc Cain through a speech about who we are fighting and who we are supporting didn't this register in the Republicans minds as wrong?????
Mc Cain still got the enemy and those we support confused!!!!
Thanks! Anoint Honesty, Defrock Neocons!
Passed the deadline, but, for smiles, how about:
Obama/Huffington - that's the ticket...
Thanks Arianna!
; )
5 WORD SPEECH:
'For Justice's sake, IMPEACH BUSH!'
"Outrage fatigue musn't cause complacency"
I love this one. Well done. I'ma stealin' it :D
Not too brag, but... oh hell YES to brag! "Fist pound or chest bump?" was also mine, imbansheed's comment was a reply to my post choosing the one of mine he liked best. I'm tickled pink to have made the final four, plus have 3 others in the top 32. Hell YES I counted!
But I have to say the one *I* liked best didn't make this list "Has Markos Moulitsas conceded yet?" - forget who posted it, but it was topical, double-edged snarky, hilarious and brilliant. Had i won the book I would have had it sent to that user... but only because I already have one.

I am constantly amazed that you continue recognize how important the little people like us are to your success and to the success of every important positive change. Thank you Arianna for all you do. If most wealthy folk were like you in this respect, the world would be good for the vast majority of people living in it.
Yeah 12 years of screaming about the Preditory Capitalist tunning Washington and finally we are being heard.
I credit this website entirely for my interest in politics. If it weren't for this website, I have to admit that I would still be one of the uninformed masses. I love Arianna and her efforts to educate and inform the public.
Yes, between Arianna, Olbermann, Stewart, Colbert and occasionally Bill Maher, it's worth still tuning in to Media.
Obama/Biden '08
The OSCARS need that rule.
Congrats to sunflower1 and, especially, to Arianna and HuffPo. I like every one of these and I'm proud as a peacock to be listed as one of your favorites.
