HuffPost Goes Local: Introducing HuffPost Chicago

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

We are rolling out our first local version of The Huffington Post. We've decided to start with Chicago because it's always been a great news town -- offering a vibrant mix of politics, sports, business, music, food, and urban life.

Transferring The Huffington Post's blend of news, opinion, and community -- delivered with our familiar look and attitude -- to a local level, HuffPost Chicago is part local news source, part resource guide, and part virtual soap box -- featuring a collection of bloggers who know and love Chicago, and are looking to share their takes on everything from the Cubs to City Hall to the hot new local band to the best place for Greek food (and I can testify that there is a lot of that in Chicago!).

HuffPost Chicago also features a rotating at-a-glance roundup of local services -- with info and takes on the city's restaurants, clubs, real estate, sporting events, movies, plays, and other local happenings. Use it to read the latest crime stats, a nightclub's hours, or the places to find the lowest priced gas.

HuffPost Chicago is being edited by Ben Goldberger, a former staff reporter with the Chicago Sun-Times. He's put together a fun and useful collection of Chicago news, local gossip, buzzworthy stories, and Windy City-centric opinion. And, of course, a comments section that will allow Chicagoans a chance to sound off on anything and everything.

We plan to roll out local versions of HuffPost in dozens of cities. So check out HuffPost Chicago and use the comment section to let us know what you think, what you want more of, what you want less of, and what cities you think should be next.

Thank you so much for the Chicago page. I read the huffingtonpost daily.

Although I am now an Atlantan, I was born in Chicago and lived there for 40 years. I love that city and now I can read about my favorite city on my favorite web site.

I'm was so happy to see this Chicago feature on HuffPo today; I'm a great booster of ChicagoLand. It is one of the greatest places on earth.

I don't see any reason to have any other cities featured..lol! We have it all here, all that is good and healthy. Chicago is a terrific world class city that shouldn't be overlooked by any American.

Thank you for choosing Chicago as your first city. I will look forward to checking it out everyday. I love Chicago and I don't think that it always gets enough attention. Chicago is wonderful in the summer. As a resident of the West side, I am watching the Blue Angels do some practice runs before the official air and water show starts on Saturday.

fine, but why clog up the splash page with promos for Chicago stories, when those of us who don't live there don't really care and if we did, we could hit the chicago button in the bookmark line.

Just sayin... less clutter is better.... and greener.

I was born and raised in Northern VA and moved to Chicago last year. Words cannot describe how amazing this city is! I'd be happy spending the rest of my life here for so many reasons that I won't even begin.

Great idea coming out with a local city page like this. Just one more reason to keep me glued to HuffPo. And great call rolling out Chicago as the first page!

Great choice! Chicago has so much of it's own personality, you couldn't have started at a better place.

Araianna, great idea, featuring a great city! I hope this new content will not displace any of the national-level content that has made me a daily reader of your site.

Fantastic! I've read HP for a long time, but today I finally created an account because of this. Very, very cool, and I couldn't be happier that you started with my town.

Its not called the 2nd City for nothing. Now that the Texas mob has screwed up royally, and the people have voted down the NYC mob, it is hoped that the Chicago mob can put things right again!
