Countdown to HuffPost Live: Join the Conversation!

Posted: 07/30/2012 1:25 pm

Two weeks ago, I told you about HuffPost Live 3, 2, 1... a section where you can learn more about HuffPost Live, our new livestreaming network, and also sign up to be a guest on the network when it launches August 13.

The response has been tremendous: hundreds of you have gone to 3, 2, 1 and recorded a video sounding off on what you are passionate about, what ticks you off, and what topics you'd like to see us cover. Many of you have also taken part in the rehearsal segments we are doing to help our hosts, our producers, and the HuffPost community get ready.

One of our goals with HuffPost Live is to provide a platform to people whose voices aren't normally heard in the traditional media -- to offer a seat at the table around which the national conversation is taking place. And that's been happening. People from all walks of life -- and from places all across the world -- have joined in on a wide range of lively and provocative conversations.

Below are a pair of videos that we've put together that give a sense of the community members who are taking part, and the kinds of issues they most want to talk about.

Give them a look, then go to HuffPost Live 3, 2, 1 to record your video take, to watch our latest rehearsal segments and community takes, and to check out our liveblog (featuring behind-the-scenes looks at the HuffPost Live team). C'mon, join the conversation!

I would love to talk about the problems with HR and online applications. I have an MA. in Education and have been out of work for many years. I was a substitute teacher but got outsourced by laid off teachers. I am almost 60, desperate for work, and have applied to hundreds of jobs from maid, retail, and fast food on up. I have seen some serious problems with the inability for computer generated applications and really unqualified HR people that have the inability to understand that if you did one thing in one job classification, you can easily transfer those same abilities to another job market. After 9 years as a substitute teacher in high schools, I am rejected by jobs in retail?????Think about the similarities in management, customer service, and dealing with 30 high school students. I have been rejected by Nordstroms, Tuesday Morning and others. I have just rewritten my resume to include the retaill and restaurant jobs from my teens and twenties even though those places are not open after 40 years. Now, I ask how if I did those jobs at 18 am I not considered qualified at almost 60???? No wonder people are unemployed when these companies refuse to see that skills, the ability to learn, and much more can be transferred to different types of jobs. They are mentally challenged because they can only see in black and white and cannot read between the lines! I am soooo angry over this stupidity!

Well stated "penny65." I pray that someone with common sense and intelligence comprehends what you've pointed out! I also pray you come into abundance(lottery?)and can open your own business and "teach" a new generation.

Who is happier...the poor girl who is a highschool senior, very beautiful, very popular, with lots of friends and lots of dates.......or the rich girl who has a facial deformity, is called "ugly" by her classmates, who doesn't get asked to the prom?? The pretty poor girl is probably happier...and yet all liberal progressive democrats can think about is money and wealth inequality. Why are liberals willing to create a massive government, an IRS with police powers & 30,000 employees, and every other policy imaginable just to try and create wealth equality? If given the chance...would liberals create beauty equality? Would they strap the pretty girl down and surgically "take" some of her beauty and give it to the ugly girl?? I just think that liberal democrats are crazy, covetous, jealous, and consumed with taking that which belongs to someone else.

Liberals are not trying to "create wealth equality." The current administration is looking at a massive economic mess handed them by GWB and recognized that the loss of income by low and middle income workers is causing the economy of the country to barely function. If 100 low income families were in a position to buy houses there will be a lot more economic activity than if one billionaire buys a house. And some would welcome a bit more to put food on their tables.

Past history says we have not been a nation of deadbeats. People accepted the idea that taxes would be raised to pay for wars; something GWB didn't do. Yet we have had Tea Party reps who would rather have us pay more interest on debt than raise taxes on the very wealth - the ones who still have money in their piggy banks, under their mattresses or in Swiss/Cayman bank accounts. The country has some real problems to be solved so quit the name-calling and stick to the topic. Tell us how we can deal with problems. We're not interested in childish, schoolyard behavior (i.e. "democrats are crazy, covetous, jealous, and consumed with taking that which belongs to someone else.).

You are mixing up several different subjects here. The different subjects I see are 1)bigotry, 2)inequality/equality, 3)judgements based on surface qualities, and finally 4)politics.
It has been my experience the first 3 are human conditions and the last one is opinion only and when it comes down to it.....is pretty shallow for most humans. Live a little longer and I think you will come to see that the last doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things. Values matter....and they are usually not conservative or liberal.

Interesting. I did 'join the conversation.' A few times. No video to be found. Ahh - technology I guess. Or - maybe it's the topic?

I'm passionate about the fatal nature of "worth decay." Like tooth decay - which in time - will cause severe pain - 'worth decay' is pandemic at the moment.

Aging, joblessness, etc. all contribute to worth decay. It's time we counter this decay by remembering we're more than dollar bills. I lead discussions locally and globally (thanks to the internet and conference calls) on this issue.

A blessing to witness 'worth decay' dissolve in people's lives such that they no longer allow others to inspire in them - feelings of worthlessness.

Good luck to this endeavor! Sharing wisdom is always an act worth the time it takes!

Reality for Real? So disgusted with what is fed to us as "reality" by the media/TV that is so NOT REALITY . It is very frustrating seeking real truth these days maybe I am dreaming or maybe this is a path to finding a just a hint about what most people really think about what is important to them. We might find we all share lots in common in our visions dreams hopes plans and maybe even some ways to get there. We just might find that our differences are not all that different that we are not all red blue black white north south maybe there are more just in between? I look forward to with hope and anticipation to what comes forth

Every time I hear a politician, pundit, or journo say, "What the American people want is..." then I'm pretty sure that person has no idea what the American people want. This might FINALLY let us know what the people actually want. Looking forward to the conversation.

“Join the Conversation!”
What we need is the Huffpo coffee pot.
Big enough to hold the grounds, for the thoughts that we’ve all got.
Percolating for a hundred years or more.
To pour cloudless cups of coffee by the score.
