As part of the Pre-Inaugural Ball HuffPost threw Monday night at the Newseum in Washington, we held a New Year's-style Countdown to a New Era. It's a new era not just because the Bush Years will officially be over today, and not just because Barack Obama will be president, but because taking on the challenges America is facing will require a new era of citizen responsibility and engagement.
To illustrate this we have put together a video produced by Philip de Vellis, creator of the Think Different/Hillary 1984 ad, and now a media strategist at Murphy Putnam Media, that delivers this message: we are all stakeholders, and we are all being inaugurated tomorrow.
Check it out -- and check the rest of the site for pictures, video, and other coverage of the HuffPost Ball, a celebration of a new era in America.
Obama brings about an aura about himself of hope and a better future for the USA to the American public and to the world. Obama has fresh ideas to make the world a better place for everyone.
He is the type of person who you could easily have a conversation with and spill out what is bothering you. He is that natural and relaxed and laid back. He has warmth, kindness, empathy and really listens to what people are saying to him. He does care about people.
Obama has the intelligence, the fortitude, the tenacity and the insight to be the world leader that he is. His calm resolve and his elegance and quick wit make him and outstanding star on the world stage.
Obama exudes confidence, strength, and says what he means and means what he says.
I admire Obama and look up to him as a hero of the people helping them to realize the world can and will be a better place to live....
. Millions of us have similar thoughts and feelings. Its difficult to explain-but I just feel so relieved now. We have a popular conservative talk show host here- Rush Limbaugh. This pathetic creature said recently: ' He hopes Obama fails " He reveals a nasty unpatriotic side of America..one I hope shrinks drastically. If our new president should fail- and I don't think he will- We as a people will fail as well. Limbaugh and his ' followers ' have no shame.
The same tired ,old, discredited slogan, make up some new lies, or shut up.

Don't believe me, check out Rush' Limbaugh's homepage article "I hope Obama FAILS!" to see how small and petty these losers can really be. How unpatriotic, how treasonous. That is like saying I hope the nation fails. You mark my words, they, Limbaugh and the neocons, will insist they will cooperate with democrats so long as it is on things on which they agree. Well, check out Obama and McCain's debates. They hardly agreed on anything. Hence not much will get through the congress and a lot will get shot down before Obama has a chance to change things for the better.
I hope I am wrong but suspect I am right. I have been watching these right wingers all my life, this is what they do, how they are, who they are. They cannot help themselves.

Years back, I could not quite imagine the US voting for somebody who belongs to a race that has been so maligned in history that stories could fill the internet space. Indeed, Obama as the new president is a great manifestation of postmodernist times in which established orders have been felled. There is a shift in power; the "other" now leads.
I hope Obama use that power to do what he is supposed to do-- vast, vast work of healing -- economically, politically, and, a dimension that is difficult to pin down-- spiritually. It is work that knows no end and it gives me a chill in my bones.
I pray for his sanity. I salute him.
in the last 8 years. President Obama has a heavy weight on his shoulders. He will make mistakes, but it is my belief that he will try his very best to represent us all. I feel there are better days ahead. But-whatever tomorrow brings..I know America will survive and thrive if we just give it time.
PEACE ON THE PLANET
I wish you the best.
You have these feelings about a person that absolutely refuses to let people know about him. Refuses to allow his school records to be released, refuses to absolutely prove the circumstances of his birth, and in giving an unscripted speech he is just as bad as the average guy you are sniping at.
The "circumstances of his birth" have long since been taken care of. Barak Obama was born in Hawaii and is a US Citizen BECAUSE HE WAS BORN IN THE US. Anyone who says that there is still a question of that is stupid. Sorry to be blunt, but there is nothing else to say about the matter.
Can you manage to have the class & the decency to wish him well ?
Maybe you can call Limbaugh or Hannity - they will enjoy your fabrications.
People of goodwill everywhere wish him well. He has a heavy load to carry-not of his own making.
Thanks for this website! Thanks for giving progressives a place to come together and be nourished by community through information, humour, thoughtfulness, anger and frustration and the opportunitty to speak our minds.
Heck the left position on Social Security is proof enough that they are not progressive!
Now "liberals" accept the word "progressives" for a change.
What will be next???
I purchased my first American flag, the day after Election Day, and flew it proudly. It's waving in the breeze on my porch today.
The flag has never looked more beautiful and I've never been more proud to display it!
Welcome, President Barack Hussein Obama! And now, a new era begins!
After all- Bush gave him loads of perks for 8 long years.
