The Clinton campaign has never looked as hard into the future -- or the past -- as it did last night. Hillary had already left South Carolina for Tennessee, and Bill was giving a semi-concession speech from Missouri, looking forward to the millions of people who will be voting on Super Tuesday -- since the hundreds of thousands in South Carolina didn't exactly go the way the Clintons had hoped. And he desperately tried to spin Obama's triumph away by telling reporters that Jesse Jackson won South Carolina twice, in 1984 and 1988. But however hard the Clintons are trying to look forward to our Super Tuesday future or drag us into the Jesse Jackson past, there are some stunning numbers in the present they have to deal with: Obama got 295,091 votes to Clinton's 141,128 (more than twice as many). He got more votes than John McCain and Mike Huckabee combined (279,723). He won 78% of the black vote, 25% of the white vote, and 52% of the non-black vote under 30. And he was more than a little responsible for the fact that Democratic turnout was twice that of 2004 (532,000 to 280,000). These numbers are pretty hard to run away from.

I actually hope Obama goes all the way and wins the White House. He will finally put a nail in the coffin of the most corrupt politicians in history, the Clintons.

Our side is not running anyone I can support, they are all Semi-Liberals that will not stop the Democrats from raise taxes and none will seal the borders against illegal immigrates. I am prepared for the tax increases by shifting investments to tax free income (lower return, but at least the government will not get a dime more).

I do feel sorry for the skilled working guy who the illegals are going to really hurt. Up until recently the illegal’s only hurt the unskilled laborers by undercutting them in wages. But that has changed in the last few years as the illegal’s moved into skilled labor positions.

As for the crimes the illegal’s disproportionaly perpetrate, they have affected mostly Liberals in the cities. I have no sympathy Liberal victims of crime in the cities. Your hug-a-thug mentality and disarming of your law abiding citizen are responsible, so you did it to yourselves. The illegal’s we have out in the country know we all have guns and will use them so the criminal types that make it out here gravitate back to the cities or end up dead.

Obama can not turn tail and run out of Iraq. By the time he gets in office things will be fine due to the continued success of the surge and making alliances with locals.

And finally, I will be glad to shut up all the racists Liberals that say no black man can get elected President in America. South Carolina is southern state that by Liberals bigoted beliefs would have lynched Obama, yet he won with white votes.

Given I only have Liberals to vote for I will be fine with Obama winning, if for no other reason than seeing the Clintons lose.

And isn't time for a Reality Check here?
The coverage of this election is getting absurd. SC is the most conservative state in the US, and over 60% of the registered dem voters in the state are black.

Let's have another look on the 6th of February, when the returns are in - then we know where this is going.

Again, showing bad judgment this time by "pretending it never happened" Hillary Clinton overtly shrugs this second loss off. With Hillary not even staying in S. Carolina but making her concession speech from Tennessee. This is a major problem with Hillary Clinton - pretending it didn't happen. Is this how "experience" has taught her to cope?

If she were to hold the Presidency, is she going to pretend 9/11 never happened or the divisiveness they created during the campaign never happened?? Its one thing to be reminded over and over again about something bad that happened, i.e, Guiliani and 9/11 or George Bush and 9/11 to justify illegal wars. It stands to reason what if anything - is worse, pretending bad things didn't happen?

I guess she wanted to go somewhere she would feel more welcome. She should have tried Siberia

For the Clintons' it would have been better if she cakewalked her way to the Democratic nomination because when she loses or Bill loses, their true character, judgment comes forth and it is one of not making sound and good judgments.

I worked for Jesse Jackson's primary campaigns in the '80's, in NYC, not SC. Beats the hell out of me how Bill Clinton's comparison of Jesse and Barack is ipso facto "racist".

I'd go a lot farther, myself. One thing Jesse never said, or thought, was that RONALD f-ing REAGAN had the big ideas.

And as for speeches, Jesse stood up at a fundraising pot-luck for the homeless in the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, reading an invitation he gotten to a White House event around Christmas (after his first run).

He talked about the Three Wise Men who refused King Herod's hospitality to search for the homeless Baby Jesus.

"The wise don't eat at Herod's table! They seek out the homeless, sit down with the homeless, share with the homeless..."

Or something like that. He had us in the palm of his hand. Even the bums looked up from their plates of free food and roared their approval.

Ronald Reagan as King Herod! Ha, Jesse nailed him bigtime.

IF Barack were MORE like Jesse, I'd probably vote for him, but, sadly, he is not.

This is the Happiest Day for the Democratic Party in eight years.

California will stun the nation again. . .Obama looks strong here in conservative San Diego County.

What a great day to be an American.

Obama did an amazing thing. He's won two contests, going up against one of the most formidable political machines in this country's history. What's more, he did it in such a way as to make his supporters proud.

I was at an Obama event tonight and one of the speakers was a woman by the name of Lorna Brett Howard and her video is up on Obama's web site. She is the former President of Chicago NOW (National Organization of Women) and she spoke about how, initially, she supported Hillary but she was becoming increasingly disturbed with the Clinton's campaign tactics. Three weeks ago, she switched her allegiance to Obama.

Here's the link to the video:

She has been under enormous pressure from the Clintons to remain loyal, but Clinton's distortions and lies on Obama's record on abortion rights, were so upsetting to her, she felt that she had no other choice.

Just 25% of the El Vota de Blanc? I wish my people had better senses than to trust a Clinton.

Well... the numbers would seem to indicate that if the Obama campaign can keep its people energenized then he has a chance of winning the nomination. The "white vote" tally of 25% does not, on the whole, bode well. Granted that he got more young voters, but if he cannot spread his appeal across a wider age spectrum as well as mollify if not appeal to the 80 million gun owners and the 67% of the population who are concerned about the illegal immigration problem, then he will not do well in the general election, let alone win the nomination. Those groups, the gun owners and those "concerned about illegal immigration", are not strickly Republican territory and should not be abondoned by anyone who wishes to be President.

victory speech was not as good as iowa. iowa was a great victory speech. well thought out for super tues but not with the passion of iowa. tired I suspect and the first victory is always the best.

darn I was looking forward to 8 years of hillary and then 8 years of jeb.

missed a golden opportunity to have his kids on stage with victory speech. those young kids will get him more votes than one can count. jfk look.

now if we can just figure out a way to impeach spineless nancy and reid and war mongers cheney and bush jr. that would be a great day in america.

Obama gives a good speech, but who is he? What has he done?
What does he stand for? What has he accomplished?
He was in the game TWO YEARS when he decided he was the most
qualified person to lead America - that doesn't seem egotistical to you?

Hillary has eight years in the White House and seven in the senate and some
people claim she's not qualified, so how does Obama clear that hurdle?

I've never been this excited about a candidate before. This will be the first time in my life I won't have to choke back a sense of shame at voting for the lesser of two evils in the general election. I've long been incredibly cynical toward our political system and our fundamentally flawed democratic process, but I must admit that I've been inspired to hope for something better.

Yes We Can! Obama 2008!

Sooner or later the media's love affair with Obama will end, and they will turn on him like they do on everyone. The only thing they like more than raising someone up is tearing them down. And when they do finally take a more balanced view of Obama his luster will fade. And Democrats who are so taken by him now will find themselves with a candidate who cannot win the general election.
