Sunday Roundup

Posted: 08/21/11 01:00 AM ET

This week, Texas Governor Rick Perry blustered his way into the thick of the GOP presidential race, racking up national exposure and controversial statements with equal swiftness. He referred to evolution as "a theory that is out there"; knocked Social Security as little more than a "Ponzi Scheme"; and derided worries about climate change, saying climates have "been changing ever since the earth was formed" (when pressed on when, exactly, that occurred, he would only say that the planet is "pretty old"). But the Perry quote of the week had to be his warning that should Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke come down to the governor's home state, Texans "would treat him pretty ugly." Pretty old, pretty ugly... pretty scary. And on the pretty geeky side of the news ledger, it was announced that "retweet" and "sexting" have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. No word on whether @RepWeiner feels validated.

The only reason for Perry's so called "success" w/jobs in TX is due to the energy boom and lack of regulations, loser pays legal, etc. California is rich with energy resources but it's an economic disaster. Don't let him do to the US what he's done to TX. Make THAT loser pay!

Rick Perry says he is a religious man who doesn't believe in evolution or man-made global warming. Texas has suffered terribly this summer with record heat, droughts, and fires. Maybe we can convince him that God is angry at Texas because Texans are trashing the environment so he should support efforts to curb global warming; not for scientific reasons but for religious reasons.

or men for that matter. According to Mr.Perry, social security is nothing more then a ponzi scheme.

Do you think he knows it effects over 50 million Americans?

Ms. Huffington, don't underestimate Gov. Perry. He will be hard for the republicans to elect - but he will be difficult to defeat in the primary.

There needs to be an "Texan Anti-Defamation Society" because so many people think all Texans are like this smarmy Bush-league Elmer Gantry. Please. We are really not responsible for this poltroon--you can blame Tom DeLay for that. And the Republican Party for letting DeLay run Texas like his personal fiefdom while disenfranchising about half her voters with redistricting. There are some scores to settle, and what goes around will come back around.
10:39 PM on 08/21/2011
I truly believe that. Somehow, someway, someday, it WILL come back and bite back.

I can't wait to hear what a president Perry's budget recommendations would be: "I can't say for sure, but it is going to be pretty big!"

Social Security is a ponzi scheme .... But I am taking an educated guess and saying that Perry's retirement benefits after working his entire life for the government he so much hates , are not .

Ain't that convenient !!

If the federal government is broke (like the former USSR) or the dollar is devalued (like the peso) then his retirement benefits fare as well as yours or anyone's. Worth nothing.
09:26 AM on 08/22/2011
You are just not being rational.

The Russians are doing just fine , and so are the Mexicans.

As for the U.S going broke, let's just say that investors around the world simply don't agree with you when they put their money every day into treasuries that are now at historic lows , precisely because no one is perceiving us going broke..... Except Right Winger Republicans that live out of scaring people for political gain.

Reality is a tough thing to face some times , but it needs to be done . Your devalued countries today stand as the 10th largest economy in the world , in the case of Russia, and the 13th largest in the world in the case of Mexico .

Not bad for "broken" countries with devalued currencies don't you think?

So please see reality, and stop repeating what the Republican B.S machine likes you to believe. RESEARCH THE TOPIC.

His major supporter in Texas was a developer name Bob Perry (no known relation) who got some favorable laws that pretty much say that if you don't like the way they built your house, you're out of luck. You can go to h*ll, or you can go to arbitration, but you're not gonna get any money either way. I don't know who is behind this overweening grasp at kickback heaven, but there's some major sleaze working here. Follow the money. Perry will, every time.

Well, just who is on the Board of Directors at the Oxford College Dictionary?

Let's call them out into the public domain and have them stop this language pollution which is now equal to that of the environmental pollution.

When a politician says something, no one knows what they said because that EXCESSIVE and BLOATED dictionary is a way out of whack!

Let's go back to the dictionary used the FIRST ORGANIZED HUMAN SOCIETY that arose in those 28 compounds in the Sumerian Period, 7-9000 years ago, and start over because it was their writing on those hundreds of thousands of clay tablets that gave rise to all dictionaries and languages that followed.

And the stories told on those tablets do not match the history of civilizations as inferred by or told by the education system, the governments, the religions and the politicians of today!

I haven't seen such erudite BS since I failed you in Freshman Comp. If you wish to complain about the OED, I suggest you contact The Rt Hon Lord Patten of Barnes, CH, Chancellor of Oxford University, who will inform you that the University does not have a Board of Directors.

You silly! The world is only six thousand years old, so the Sumerians? Is that another theory out there? But I agree, we had all the words we needed back then, way before the invention of the comp...comp...comp...
Dash it all! What is this thing I'm using to access the inter...inter...

If it's true----why hasd the banksters basically been given a pass?
The formula to capture pensions is still in play and nobody punished for the theft of pensions in the past---maybe that was the real mark for the poison placed in the market and ignored by regulators.... Americans at least should be batlling this president's plan for more free trade and messing with ss and medicare..
