The White House served up a blast from the past this week with word that it was planning to rebrand the Iraq war -- something the Bushies did quite often. Come Sept. 1, it will be good-bye "Operation Iraqi Freedom," hello "Operation New Dawn"! This New Dawn will, incidentally, still see 50,000 U.S. troops left in Iraq. So we started with 2001's "Gathering Threat" and 2002's "Axis of Evil," moved to 2003's "Shock and Awe" and "Mission Accomplished," then pinballed from "Fight 'em There, Not Here" ('04) to "Last Throes" ('05) to "Stay the Course" ('05) to "The New Way Forward" ('06). "Operation New Dawn" sounds like "A New Way of Forgetting This Ever Happened." It's time to brand the war what it always was -- "A Huge, Tragic Mistake" -- and get the hell out.

Stopping all the stupid legacy wars will move things in the correct direction in our once great country.
Thank you for your insightful pieces. I would like to share an article with you that I recently wrote entitled "Aafia Siddiqui and the Ongoing War on Terror."
A short excerpt: "Because one of the primary tools used [in the war on terror] is associations—who knows whom—it is too easy to name someone for the sake of naming, and not because the named is guilty of the alleged crime. The relationships between these associations must be investigated more thoroughly and must be based on sturdier evidence than the testimony of the abused. Not doing so robs us of our conscience, and leaves our execution of justice mangled and meaningless."

Thank you again and have a great week.
Changing our role in Iraq and withdrawing combat troops is a great thing. The Marines left last month.
We declared war on Iraq without provocation. What do you think we owe that country for all the destruction and loss of life?

It is only sad that president Obama has stayed the course that Bush had initiated. Still with that initiative, he coldn't recruit bipartisanship. This is a great sacrifice on the part of the new administration who thought that they will be called unpatriotic if they didn't support Bush-Cheney-Rice doctrine.
The political landscape of the 2012 is not clear -- it could even be messier unless Obama stops all wars to improve economy vigorously at home, pass the healthcare bill with govt option so people give credence to his leadership, and then emerge as victorious in 2012 election.
By then the GOP will have the legitimacy of tea party with gossip as their party agenda. They have one big gossip lady and they may honor her for that tea party role which should be her exclusive domain.
It's strange to see how one GOP will be finally reduced to a Grand Obsolete Party celebrating and gossipping in their tea parties.
