This week saw the ongoing implosion of a once-likable figure who gave a crazy interview, refused to apologize, and made it worse the more he kept talking. I'm referring, of course, to Mike Huckabee (sorry, Charlie) -- who, in an interview with a birther radio host, repeatedly claimed that Obama's worldview, particularly "his view of the Brits," was shaped by "having grown up in Kenya." When it was pointed out that Obama never even visited Kenya until 1987, Huckabee claimed he'd misspoken and meant to say Indonesia -- even though it was a Dutch, not a British, colony. This pandering to the worst elements of the Obama-hating fringe is especially disappointing because Huckabee has previously dared to speak eloquently against immigrant bashing and in favor of poverty fighting. Now he'd rather channel his inner Dan Quayle and criticize unwed-but-pregnant Natalie Portman. Maybe he misspoke and meant to slam Bristol Palin.

Why would huckabee even mention the little league baseball when he looks like he hasn't done anything athletic in his life & Obama was part of a high school basketball championship team. www.sportbloggers.com

Since the bait-n-switch he dropped on us, I am thinking about joining the Birthers...

...and I both canvassed and voted for him.

Great thinking, because republicans would do so much better.Right?

Oh--I forgot! Ms. Portman lost weight to dance ballet in "Black Swan." Ms. Palin gained weight, and appeared on "Dancing with the Stars."

Natalie Portman has a degree from an Ivy League college, and she excelled in science. Bristol Palin, I think, did get her GED after dropping out to have Tripp, and is now ready to write her memoirs. If I were a kid, I know which mom I would rather have.

What is shocking is how commonplace overt propaganda is in our culture today.
Previous generations - the post War generations who watched Bill Paley's CBS,
RCA's NBC and pre-Disney ABC would not have stood for such lying with intent
to mislead. Huckabee would be blacklisted from NEWS rooms of the sixties
and seventies.
Reagan did a great, great disservice to all Americans when he ended
the "Fairness Doctrine". We can all thank Reagan for bringing us
the era of pure misinformation on TV and radio.

Huckabee is one of many DANGEROUS right wing possible candidates for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.
He's supposed to be a preacher and we will need help from above if he gets in.

Arianna my first comment to your post since I discovered HP. Not only are you on "target" but you hit a "bullseye". (The Palin clan should love this) and Huckleberry has once again proven he isn't even a marginal challenger even if 10 states in the South think he's Presidential material. The rest of the nation and the world should laugh and run in the other direction.

So true, The GOP has really conceded the "high ground" on unwed pregnancy when they gave Bristol a pass on having a baby out of wedlock.

And really, Natalie Portman is setting a bad example? This young woman is college educated, self-supporting, and is at least engaged to the father of her baby. As a mother, I'd be proud of her as a daughter.

I love her too. That Sunday Roundup paragraph is a little gem of genius.
