The week that was: Teddy passed the JFK baton to Obama, Bush offered up a blast-from-the-past State of the Union, McCain took Florida, Florida took out Giuliani, Clinton tried to claim Florida too (after having agreed that no one should), Edwards bowed out, Obama and Clinton had a Kodak moment, and the latest campaign fundraising figures were released, showing that Giuliani spent close to $50 million in '07, capturing but one national delegate in the process (the worst delegate bang for the buck in the history of presidential politics). For more fundraising fun, give our FundRace tool a whirl. Its new mapping feature lets you to see how much your friends, neighbors, co-workers, ex-husbands, old college roommates, and assorted famous folks have given -- and to who. Warning: It's addictive!

Hey. I've given hundreds to Ron Paul, so howcome I'm not showing up on fundrace, huh? HUH?

Pardonemoi if I sound paranoid but Dr. Paul has been treated horribly thus far; consequently I believe my paranoia is reasonable.

So whom do I call?

Remember how we cried that we won the popular vote of the people but Bush won the Electoral college?
Now we have become Bush! They who voted for Hillary lose twice.

It seems like people are just now beginning to notice that Obama seems to lack substance. Sure, he looks great in a suit and he knows how to wave and smile for the camera, but he is beginning to remind me of Ronald Reagan: all toothy, goofy grin coupled with romantic sounding pleas for "hope" and "change." The suit looks good, but we need more than style for post-BushCo America. We need tough. And as someone said in the NYT today, Obama is a wuss.

I started out a B. Hussein Obama fan, but as the campaign progresses, I'm going with Hillary. And if McCain gets the Republican nomination, he would eat a guy like Obama for breakfast. Might as well have eight more years of Republicans in the big chair if BHO goes all the way to November.

EGO-BA-MANIA - Top 5 "Paucity of Hope" Moments in 2008

5. "You"re likable enough, Hillary." Obama grants condescendingly at the New Hampshire debate on January 5, 2008.

4. "I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that, you know, Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not." Obama sounds off to the editorial board of the Reno Journal Gazette on January 14, 2008.

3. "I think it"s fair to say that the Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10-15 years in the sense that they were challenging conventional wisdom." Obama pontificates with the editorial board of the Reno Journal Gazette on January 14, 2008.

2. The Kodak moment at the State of the Union speech - Obama turns his back on Hillary as she comes up to him and Senator Kennedy, whose hand is the only one she shakes - on January 28, 2008.

1. "I"m confident that I will get her votes if I"m the nominee, it"s not clear that she would get the votes I got if she were the nominee." Obama brags at a press conference in Los Angeles on February 1, 2008.

I supported Edwards from the jump, but even he can't make me embrace Obama. I am waiting to see something concrete besides slogans and sly little asides.

Giuliani spent close to $50 million, and he received one more delegate than I did.

I cannot understand for the life of me why Democrats are so hot and bothered about what the Republican political machine will do to either of the two Democratic contenders should he/she get the nomination. Wait a minute now. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY AFRAID OF? Your job is to go out there and respond with as much VENOM as they can spit out or more. In the name of God and For once in your lives stop playing the NICE ladies and gentlemen. GET IN THE GUTTERS with these bastards and slug it out. GET DIRTY - slander for slander, libel for libel, insult for insult, swift boating for swift boating. They want to come after Hillary? LET THEM COME!!! They want to come after OBAMA? LET THEM COME, Goddammit. If they reach for the jugular, Go for NUTS and squeeze the bloody life out of them. Anticipate what they are about to do and STEAL THEIR THUNDER. Who do they think they are, REALLY? It is about time the American people get treated to a real political slug fest. JUST STOP BEING SO AFRAID.

Arianna I praise your site, keeping issues in the public eye and allowing anyone to comment. But I am wondering why issue hasn't been taken with the increase in the national debt, which had been decreasing when Bill Clinton left office? Bu$h just realeased a budget with a 400 BILLION dollar deficit! That's $30,300 per person!!! Per person, folks. That's an increase of $12,000 per person in just eight long, deceptive years.

Where is everyone - Democrat and Republican alike? Bu$hCo has done al Qaida's job for them - destroying our way of life.

Most of the Democratic voters in Florida were motivated by a major, statewide initiative on property taxes. New homeowners pay far more property tax than those who have owned their homes for a while. So both new and old homeowners had a vested interest. In addition, most of these home owners were older retirees, and not the young.

Senator Clinton is especially strong among the elderly. Senator Obama, if present and campaigning, can galvanize the young to vote. That could not happen, despite some national Obama ads on cable TV that could not be blacked out for Florida by the cable providers. The mass Obama rallies are far more potent.

Secondly, Floridians were encouraged to vote early -- a sensible precaution considering Florida's past history. Those who voted early would not have been aware of the Obama surge.

Lastly the Florida vote was closed to independents and there was a deadline past which independent voters could not change their affiliation to vote for Senator Obama. By the time independent Floridians realized that Senator Clinton was making a big deal over Florida after her devastating South Carolina loss, it was to late to register as Democratic.

For these reasons, many do not think the Florida vote accurately measured the true desires of Floridians. I personally think that the democratic Party in Florida should agree with the national party to hold a new primary election and allow Floridians to express their right to decide their nominee, fairly and with full knowledge of the current political scene.

A good summary of the week that was. I hope Edwards will endorse Obama, and that justice will prevail with Bush.

Bush's unprovoked war on Iraq has left more than 1 million innocent Iraqi's dead. As a nation, we should begin to atone for this unspeakable act by first charging Bush and his collaborators for war crimes and crimes against humanity, after that cabal is removed from power.
