Alexandra Gillies is head of governance at the Revenue Watch Institute, a non-profit policy institute and grantmaking organization that promotes the responsible management of oil, gas and mineral resources for the public good. She holds a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Cambridge, where she completed her dissertation on challenges to reform in the oil sector of Nigeria. She spent 2008 in Nigeria as a Fulbright Fellow at the Centre for Democracy and Development in Abuja, Nigeria.

Alexandra has consulted for the World Bank, DFID - Nigeria, and the DAI/USAID Reforms Project, and previously served as assistant director for the Program of African Studies at Northwestern University. Her publications have appeared in International Studies Quarterly and The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs. She co-edited the volume Smart Aid for African Development.

Alexandra holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Ghana and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Emory University.
