Alparslan Akkuş

Journalist, PhD

Alparslan Akkuş is an Istanbul based journalist with more than 15 years’ experience in the field. He worked for Hurriyet and Sabah dailies as News Editor and Foreign News Editor respectively. He also wrote columns for Sabah daily and Hurriyet Daily News, focusing especially on foreign policy issues.

Akkuş was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Turkey edition of The New York Times, a weekly English-Turkish newspaper published in cooperation with The New York Times.

Akkuş completed his PhD on journalism at Marmara University in 2016 and holds an MBA at Yeditepe University. His PhD work is focused on public diplomacy, social media, social movements and political communication. His major on Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University helps him to analyze developments in international politics from a broader perspective with solid theoretical knowledge.

Akkuş is an IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program) fellow of the U.S. State Department, Bosporus Gesellschaft fellow of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation of Germany and Mashav Fellow of Israeli Foreign Ministry. He previously worked for Dogan Burda Rizzoli Magazine Group, a Turkish-German-Italian joint venture media company in Istanbul as a manager and for Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey’s first English language newspaper owned by Dogan Media Group, as News Editor.
