Annie Gersh is a 9th grader in Los Angeles and competes nationally on her school’s debate team. Her main interest is raising awareness about issues that face girls globally.
Since September, 2011, she has served as a Teen Advisor for Girl Up, a UN Foundation campaign that mobilizes the passion of girls in the U.S. to raise funds and awareness to help ensure girls in developing countries are educated, healthy, safe and positioned to be the next generation of leaders. Currently, she serves as the Co-Chair of the Teen Advisor board. As a Teen Advisor, she serves as a campaign representative in the LA area and provides her perspective on issues facing girls today and educates others on the steps Girl Up is taking to solve them. Recently she had the opportunity to participate in a round table discussion with Sen. Gillibrand to exchange ideas about how to get young women involved in politics. She is in the process of forming a Youth Advisory board with my congressional representative, Henry Waxman. When Annie grows up, she hopes to get involved in politics, specifically international relations focusing on global poverty and women’s and girls’ rights.
