Denny was a reporter, columnist, editor and senior executive during a 43-year daily newspaper career. He is a 2008 inductee into the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame, and is a past recipient of the Ohio Associated Press Sports Editors’ award for Best Sports Column as well as numerous other writing awards, including the Colorado Authors' League 2015 award for best magazine feature. He was president of the Colorado Press Association, the trade organization representing the state’s daily and weekly newspapers, in 1993.
Among his other books are Sterling Heroes of World War II; Eddie Robinson: ". . . he was the Martin Luther King of football" and two dealing with diabetes: Yes I Can! Yes You Can! Tackle Diabetes and WIN! and The Diabetes Antidote. The Eddie Robinson biography received finalist awards for biography, in the 2010 Colorado Book Awards, and for historical nonfiction, in the 2010 Next Generation Indie National Book Awards. Denny has edited four books in addition to the six he has authored.
