Derek Smith is the founder of Talk NYC, a digital media think tank focused on addressing emerging issues shaping the evolution of the digital marketing ecosystem. In addition to Talk NYC, he is digital marketing evangelist and branding expert by trade, Derek has worked with many leading global brands. With a primary focus on digital media trends, he has developed a keen understanding of the complex relationship that exists between advertisers and brands.
Derek has consulted and worked with some of the world’s most prominent brands, among whose number are Microsoft Advertising, EMI Music Group, NBA, Miller Breweries, Dove, and Ritz Crackers.
Throughout his career, Derek has held a number of key positions, including that of brand consultant at Young and Rubicam. He has also consulted with the likes of Razorfish, Outburst Brands and Tempo Networks (formerly MTV).
He enjoys competitive eating and is always looking for ways to reduce his averages golf score of 20 over par. He is also a former board member at Sustainable South Bronx and has volunteered at the St. Phillips Academy in Newark, NJ during his spare time.
