Gerhard Bachfischer

Course Director/Lecturer, Visual Communication, School of Design at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS)

Dr. Gerhard Bachfischer is an Austrian-born and Sydney-based typographer/designer/lecturer/academic with over 25 years of experience. He is currently the course director for the Bachelor of Visual Communication at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) where he tries to convince students and colleagues alike about the importance of typography and its proper use.

Current research areas include design practice, design education, and the integration of technology and creative skills in both. Gerhard completed his doctorate, “Framework of Influential Factors on the Typographic Quality of Text Perceived by its Audience," in 2009 at UTS. Since then his favourite words seem to be “the quality without a name” and “essences” of any kind -- both being at the core of his PhD study and both still a complete mystery to him.
