Gizem Akyil is a London-based Consultant, Project and Event Manager. She holds an MA in Human Rights from the University College London and BA in International Relations from Ankara University. She was awarded Jean Monnet Scholarship in 2008 in the area of Justice, Freedom and Security and her research explored refugee laws and their implementation in Turkey and the EU. She worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Koc University, Istanbul and has work experience with human rights organisations in Turkey, such as UN High Commissioner for Refugees (Ankara), Flying Broom Women’s Organisation, Human Rights Foundation of Turkey, as well as various organisations in the UK, namely UCL Institute for Human Rights, Kurdish Human Rights Project, Democratic Progress Institute and the Global Rule of Law Forum. Her interests include human rights, politics, urban development, photography and dance.
