Origin is a social enterprise that links small retailers to the private sector and helps them sell cheaper, healthier food in slums. Small grocery stores are a vital source of food in low-income urban communities. They are convenient, offer credit and sell in small, affordable quantities. In the developing world, these stores make up the vast majority of the retail sector. Unfortunately, inefficient supply chains mean that the poor often pay a premium for food. By providing small retailers with a low-cost tablet and simple software, Origin combines their buying power and make healthy food more affordable to slum dwellers. Origin was founded by ESADE MBA students: Cesar Del Valle, James Doherty, Jon Myer, Monica Noda and Greg Perowne.
