Imam

Imam Hassan A. Amin is the Imam at Johns Hopkins University and volunteer Islamic Chaplain at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Additionally, he is the Islamic chaplain with Baltimore City’s Police Department and Islamic chaplain with United States Park Police. He is a former college instructor at Sojourner-Douglass College. He has over twenty-five years of volunteer service as a counselor at the Islamic Community School in West Baltimore. He also was an instructor and principal at the Islamic Community School. He is the founder and executive director of Muslim Social Services Agency of Baltimore City, Maryland. Since 2003, his organization has helped over 50,000 low income and homeless families and individuals connect to social service needs. Imam Amin is a board member of MercyUSA, a worldwide aid and development organization. He has received two Mayor’s Citation for his contribution to the civic welfare of Baltimore City. Imam Amin received a Proclamation from Mayor Martin O’Malley. The mayor designated March 4, 2004 as “Imam Hassan A. Amin Day” in Baltimore City. This day was proclaimed because of Imam Amin’s fighting of crime on the streets of Baltimore City, cleaning up neighborhoods and successfully leading a campaign that removed drug dealers from a Baltimore City playground. In 2010, Imam Amin received an “Excellence in Social Work Award” from the Maryland Department of Human Resources. In 2010, Imam Amin received the Sampson Green Award for his work in the community and in the field of social work. In April 2012, Imam Amin received a “Hero for Justice” award from the University of Maryland’s School of Social Work for his work in the community. In March of 2014, Imam Amin received the Alumni of the Year award from the University of Maryland’s School of Social Work. In October 2014, Imam Amin received an award from the Governor of Maryland for his excellence and commitment for his assistance with helping to improve upon the quality of life of the citizens of the State of Maryland. Imam Amin has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland’s School of Social Work, bachelor degree in Islamic Studies from American Open University and a bachelor degree in Social Sciences from Temple University, associate degree in Liberal Arts from Philadelphia Community College and is presently pursuing his second master’s degree in Islamic studies from the American Open University. Imam Amin is a licensed Social Worker in the State of Maryland. In 2004, Imam Amin was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame, by the will of Allah.
