Elder Law Attorney, Senior Advocate, Family Man

My children and I are on a mission to improve the lives of our seniors! For the last 4 or 5 years my college children Brian, Austin and Lauryn interned at my law practice here in Milford, CT. As interns, I gave them the dreaded task of sorting a literal mountain of paperwork, pamphlets, flyers, letters, business cards, postcards, and other promotional materials I have collected from trusted colleagues over the years.I have been practicing Elder Law for 26 years and meet several seniors and their families in crisis every day. By sorting through the promotional materials by category and location, we eased the health or finance crisis faced by my clients and their families. Our resource room sufficed for the time being, but my kids and I continued to struggle to find a reliable, easy to navigate website that already compiled information from the trusted local sources I feel confident referring. Then summer of 2014 came. My two sons and daughter went on strike: “Dad, this is old-school… you need to get with the times. We’re done reorganizing the resource room!” So we had lunch at Chipotle and talked about some ideas for over two hours and sixteen missed calls. On came the excel Master-file… the next task to be tackled. It was what you would imagine: names, numbers, descriptions, and categories of all of the trustworthy, local care and financial solutions aimed to help our seniors. Bam! We’re set… so we thought. No time was saved. Our clients had no idea how to navigate. There wasn’t enough information. The email addresses were out of date... And one day the file got deleted. After that total loss of time and energy, my children and I became obsessed with the fact that there wasn’t a senior resource website that was reliable, easy to navigate, and trustworthy. We knew there was an opportunity to do good by helping share, organize, and compile information valuable to seniors and their families. Fast forward one year... we are active on social media sites, with over 15,000 connections in the elder care community. We also launched seniorhelpdesk.com, an online community that aims to connect seniors to the local community, healthcare professionals, companies, and information needed to live a quality life. My goal with the Huffington Post is to further inform, educate, inspire, and enlighten communities, families by spreading information that will improve the lives of our aging population. Thank you for reading. The Jasers: Jay, Bryan, Lauryn, Austin
