Jason Katz is the founder and principal of The Tool Shed Group, a full service consultancy specializing in strategic communications, business development and public affairs. In this capacity, Mr. Katz works with medium to large land developers in Los Angeles and has deep contacts in the entertainment, financial and banking industries. Mr. Katz works closely with law enforcement on a variety of issues and also worked on Valley secession, special order 40 and many other city and county, state and Federal issues. Mr. Katz has experience with the energy sector, working on church/state issues, economic development and good government.

Mr. Katz works closely with several foreign governments, quasi-governmental entities and corporations, including serving as a senior advisor to the Republic of Azerbaijan, their Consulate General in Los Angeles and Ministry of Information Technology and Communications. Mr. Katz also advises various private equity firms, investors and technology firms wishing to invest in the economies of Central Asia, South Asia and the United States.

Mr. Katz previously served as the Vice President of Corporate and Public Affairs for Town Hall Los Angeles, a civic and political organization that shapes and drives public policy through high level interactions in the form of conferences, panels and symposia with elected officials, policy makers and decision makers on international, national, regional and local levels. Mr. Katz was primarily responsible for the development of close relationships with business and corporate leaders, elected and appointed officials, diplomats, and policy and decision makers from throughout the world.

Prior to Town Hall, Mr. Katz spent eight years as the head of public affairs for the American Jewish Committee (AJC) in Los Angeles, a prominent public policy think tank and advocacy organization. In this capacity, Mr. Katz was responsible for the overall image and institutional strategy for AJC. He was primarily charged with running the organization’s PR, political and policy shops, which develop and implement AJC’s legislative agenda and lobby on issues such as security, counter-terrorism, public safety, immigration, church-state, public education and various other local, state and national issues. He was also the lead staff liaison to intelligence and law enforcement organizations and related think tank organizations.

An expert in public relations, public affairs and organizational and leadership development and strategy, Mr. Katz has led training seminars for various secular and non-secular organizations. Mr. Katz recently lectured on the following topics: Congressional, Government and Public Relations: Lessons on The Role of Energy Security in the US-Azerbaijan Strategic Allied Relations conference held at George Washington University; US Partnership and Investment Opportunities in the Technology Sectors held at Bakutel International Technology Conference and Exhibition in Azerbaijan; Private Sector Careers in Foreign Affairs at California State University Channel Islands; Geopolitics, Diplomacy and Grassroots at Third Annual Azerbaijani-American Scholarly Forum held at University of California Irvine.

Mr. Katz serves on various committees and commissions, including the Los Angeles/Orange County Homeland Security Advisory Commission, the California Secretary of State’s Advisory Committee on Voter Participation and Outreach, the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder Voter Outreach Committee, Advisory Commission to City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo & Councilman Jack Weiss.

A native Angeleno, he is married to Dana Katz, and they live in Woodland Hills with their two sons, Ilan and Gabriel.
