Jerome Karabel Professor of sociology, University of California at Berkeley

Jerome Karabel is a professor of sociology at the University of California at Berkeley and the author of, among other works, The Chosen: The Hidden History of Admission and Exclusion at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. An award-winning author, he has written for The New York Review of Books, The New York Times Book Review, The Nation, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Le Monde Diplomatique. His current project, which he began as a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, is “Outlier Nation: The Roots and Consequences of American Distinctiveness,” a comparative study of 20 wealthy democratic countries.
