Jerry Dávila is Lemann Professor of Brazilian History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He studies race relations, state policy and social movements. He is the author of Diploma of Whiteness: Race and Social Policy in Brazil (Duke, 2003); Hotel Trópico: Brazil and the Challenge of African Decolonization (Duke, 2010); and most recently, Dictatorship in South America (Wiley, 2013).
