Lisa Berkman Director of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies

Lisa Berkman PhD, a social epidemiologist, is a professor of Public Policy and Epidemiology at Harvard University and director of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. Dr. Berkman’s work focuses on the social influences on health outcomes, especially in understanding social disparities related to socioeconomic status, racial and ethnic status, social networks, and social isolation. Her work is devoted primarily to identifying the role of social networks and support in predicting age-related changes in function, onset of disease, and mortality.
