Marcia Meier is a journalist, book editor and former director of the Santa Barbara Writers Conference. Her book, Navigating the Rough Waters of Today's Publishing World, Critical Advice for Writers From Industry Insiders (Quill Driver Books, 2010), is a compilation of advice from more than 20 publishing world experts and was named one of Ten Great Books on Writing in 2010 by The Writer magazine. Meier was a print journalist for 20 years, working for four daily newspapers in the roles of reporter, copy editor, assistant city editor and editorial page editor. She also wrote a personal column for five years, and a Women and Business column for OC Metro Magazine for two years. She has free-lanced or written for numerous publications, including Santa Barbara Magazine, the Los Angeles Times, The Writer, and Miller-McCune Magazine online. She has taught journalism, writing and media criticism at the collegiate level for more than 15 years, and continues to work privately with writers to help them realize their goals. She is a published poet and short-story writer, and is at work on a memoir.
