Mel Walsh

Author, 'Hot Granny,' 'Fabulous at 50,' '60 and Beyond'

Mel Walsh's latest book, Hot Granny (Chronicle Books), offers humorous, practical advice for women 50 and better. On Huff/Post 50, Mel writes about everything that can happen when one travels on the outskirts of age. Each post from Mel has at least one piece of usable info, a few flashes of humor and always a bit of comfort that one is not alone on the journey.

As a columnist, Mel has been syndicated by King Features and has had columns in the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Jose Mercury News. With an MA in Gerontology from USC, Mel consults about later life and speaks nationally (CBS Early Show, AARP Expo) about life past 50. She's been the spokesperson for two internationally distributed food/wine products.

Mel has also written, produced and hosted a weekly FM radio show for older adults called Second Wind and wrote 200 newspaper columns by the same name. She's been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine, and has been called "the thinking woman's Erma Bombeck." However, she thinks of herself as the older adult's back fence neighbor.

She lives with Cranky Pants, a later-life husband, who appears in her columns. Together they have 6 adult offspring and some small people who claim to be grandchildren.

Mel's book of advice, Hot Granny, is a great gift and can be found on Amazon. Mel can be Twittered: @MelWalshWriter. Her CBS Early Show interview about Hot Granny is on YouTube. Search: Mel Walsh CBS.
