Six Shooter Records’ Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet tied the musical knot with Whitehorse, marrying their talent and chemistry on stage as a smoldering duo. Individually, Luke and Melissa have been recognized with awards and nominations from the Juno Awards, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Hamilton Music Awards, the Independent Music Awards and Polaris. More than the sum of considerable talents, Whitehorse unites falcon with songbird to dramatic effort. Their first full-length album, The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss, bears Whitehorse’s signature blistering guitar work and love-knotted vocals on everything from psychedelic-meets-Spaghetti Western scorchers to sparkling acoustic ballads to pop noir numbers. Whitehorse’s live show also features with complex layers of looped percussion, keyboard and telephone receiver amplification, tangled like an embrace with the help of looping pedals. Their dynamic performances also highlight the power of simplicity – when they step up to a single, shared mic at the front of the stage, it’s clear that they have something special.
