Nam Kiwanuka is a columnist for the BBC’s Focus on Africa Magazine and a former VJ/Videographer for Canada’s Music Station, MuchMusic. Nam has appeared as a Contributor on the Marilyn Denis Show on CTV and has hosted and produced shows for Rogers Sportsnet and BET. She’s reported for ET Canada, CNN and has written for the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, Jane Magazine and xojane.com. Nam was an Ambassador for MalariaBites.net, a Canadian Red Cross campaign and helped to raise $2 million for the program. She appeared on national television to promote the campaign, spoke at schools about the dangers of Malaria, a preventable disease that continues to kill millions of children in Africa and Asia and she traveled to Mali, West Africa where she documented the distribution of bed nets and vaccinations. Nam has been featured on the cover of Planet Africa Magazine and in 2008, Chatelaine Magazine in its 80th anniversary issue, named her one of 80 Canadian Women to Watch. After volunteering in Africa, Nam decided to create a TV show, which combated the negative stereotypes, and images that are often used to portray Africa. Nam’s TV pilot,‘This Is Africa’, celebrates the places and faces of Africa. Nam has been featured in Maclean’s, Sway and Vice Magazines and the BBC World Service program.
