Paul Winstanley joined Stevens Institute of Technology in fall 2009 as the University’s first Director of Energy Initiatives. Winstanley served most recently as the US-based President and CEO of the British company QinetiQ. This position constituted the pinnacle of his involvement with the QinetiQ group where he achieved significant organic growth (>50%) to create a $100m per annum enterprise by the development and maintenance of many client relationships, including the US Department of Defense (DoD) and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Prior to this he also served as Technical Director-Land Systems and was a member of QinetiQ’s Technical Executive Council. Winstanley’s position gives him the unique opportunity to merge his extensive experience in technology and business with the field of renewable energy. He holds a B.Sc. degree from the University of Hull in Applied Physics with Laser Technology, he attended the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) in 2003 and he is a Fellow of the British Institute of Physics and the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is married to a long-suffering wife, Lisa, and has three young children and two even younger spaniels. Outside interests include renovating vintage automobiles that he claims are more environmentally acceptable than buying new ones!
