Ryan McDermott currently works in corporate finance and writes on issues primarily relating to the Civil-Military divide. Ryan began his career in finance at Lehman Brothers in the Fall of 2008, one month before the firm went bankrupt. While working on Wall Street, he gained experience working in capital markets and Mergers & Acquisitions. Before his career in finance, Ryan served for six years on active duty as an officer in the United States Army. An Infantry officer by training, he was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia with the 3rd Infantry Division from 2001 until 2006 and deployed to Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom in January of 2003. He later completed follow-on stateside assignments as an Assistant Brigade Operations officer and as a Rear Detachment commander. Ryan is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and holds a Master of Business Administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business. He is also a Security Fellow with the Truman National Security Project and lives in Washington DC.
