She is an expert on criminal justice responses to violence against women and girls, including the rape kit backlog in the United States. Before she began work at the Joyful Heart Foundation, she was a senior researcher for Human Rights Watch, where she published reports on the rape kit backlogs in Los Angeles and Illinois.
