Shakirah Simley is the co-founder of Nourish|Resist and the Community Programs Manager and Canner-in-Residence for Bi-Rite, an independently-owned, family of sustainable food businesses in San Francisco. Shakirah has a decade of experience working on food equity issues; her recent projects include a “Good Food Job” industry pipeline and professional development training for high schoolers, and advising corner store owners in low-income neighborhoods who want to sell healthier food options. She has also worked with youth to change their school food systems via Funder's Collaborative for Youth Organizing. Shakirah sits on several boards focusing on food access and justice in the Bay Area, including CommunityGrows, CUESA and SPUR. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and Master’s degree from the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy via a Fulbright research scholarship. Shakirah is one of Zagat’s “30 under 30: SF Bay Area Up and Comers” and is a certified Master Food Preserver though the University of California County Extension. A native of Harlem, NYC, Shakirah currently lives in San Francisco.
