Sharon Waxman served as Vice President for Public Policy and Advocacy at the International Rescue Committee until August 2015. She previously served as Deputy to the Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights at the Department of State; Senior National Security Advisor to Senator Edward M. Kennedy; and Associate Staff to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

She received her BA from the University of California at Berkeley and her Masters from the Johns Hopkins School of International Studies. She is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
