Assistant Superintendent for Community Relations, Detroit Public Schools
Steven Wasko, APR, serves as the Chief Communications Officer and is Assistant Superintendent for Community Relations for Detroit Public Schools.
Wasko leads all of Detroit Public Schools communications, parental involvement, community relations, public relations, and marketing. He serves as General Manager of district-owned 42,000-watt WRCJ 90.9 FM and as the primary district liaison to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation, and is a Cabinet-level direct report to the DPS Emergency Manager.
He holds a Master of Public Administration in Educational Administration and the prestigious APR, Accreditation in Public Relations through PRSA/National School Public Relations Association, which is earned by approximately 6% in the profession nationally. He completed both of Michigan's Superintendent Preparation Training Programs through the Michigan Leadership Institute and the Michigan Association of School Administrators, the second of which resulted in his being one of only less than 20 aspiring superintendents in the state to hold a Certificate of Specialty Endorsement in the Superintendency on the Michigan Administrator Certificate.
He is a lifelong Detroiter and long-time community advocate.
