Violeta Ayala Bolivian/Australian filmmaker

Violeta Ayala is an indigenous award winning filmmaker born in Bolivia, best known for the controversial documentary STOLEN that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival 2009, screened in 80 festivals worldwide, winning 15 awards and aired on PBS. She is currently working on a Drug War Trilogy, Ayala’s initial offering, THE BOLIVIAN CASE premiered in the Special Presentation Program at Hot Docs 2015, and has won an audience award at the Sydney Film Festival. The second part of the trilogy, COCAINE PRISON is currently in postproduction. SOUTH MEETS NORTH, the final part of the trilogy includes an art installation and interactive online web experience is currently in development. Ayala is also writing the screenplay EL COMUNISTA, a narrative feature about her grandfather, leader of the Bolivian Communist party, exiled Serbian Jew and friend to Che Guevara who spent 10 years in a political prison.
