Yasmin Bendaas, a senior at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, is an anthropology major with minors in journalism and Middle East and South Asia studies.

As a student-journalist, she is a staff writer for the university paper, The Old Gold & Black, and is the incoming editor for Wake Radio's music magazine The Zine.

Half-Algerian and half-Iranian, Yasmin became intrigued by her grandmother's facial tattoos and wanted to research this symbol of cultural identity in the Aures Mountains in northeastern Algeria. Yasmin is traveling to Algeria for the fourth time.
