Since the government provides few specifics to support this claim it is hard to challenge them. That should not mean however that journalists have to keep covering the lies as though they are true.

Australian David Hicks is pleading guilty to a crime that did not exist on the books until September of 2006; all of the original, serious charges were dropped because the military had no evidence against him.
At one point the military claimed that Hicks' crimes were even worse than those of the so-called "American Taliban" John Walker Lindh. We should all shudder over that one.
