As I write this blog I am headed to Iowa with less than two days until the first caucuses take place. The Iowa Caucuses are the official beginning of the race for the Republican Presidential nomination and where the rubber meets the road.

Although we now have a winner in Iowa - Mitt Romney beat Rick Santorum by eight votes and Ron Paul came in a very close third place - we may also have a real loser in this Iowa quadrennial contest, the American voter.

As I head off to New Hampshire for the Primary which is on Tuesday, one thing is clear - the battle for the soul of the Republican Party continues.

As the first Republican presidential candidate -- except for a sitting president -- to sweep both Iowa and New Hampshire, Mitt Romney seems poised to capture South Carolina this Saturday and go on to win the nomination of his party.

Suffering the chants of "Newt Can Win" and "USA USA" all the commentators who thought South Carolina would hand Mitt Romney the brass ring and a ticket to ride to the nomination -- it's time to eat crow!
